Yes…you can turn your contemporary abstract paintings in a different direction and have a new look to your room.

Just because the artist created the painting as a horizontal or a vertical doesn’t mean that you can’t like it better as a vertical for your space.

This won’t work for all abstract paintings but I have found that it works for many of mine.

Some examples of before and after will stimulate your curiosity to see if some of your contemporary abstracts will work the same for you. And if you have discovered that you actually like it better.

Let me give you an example of a square painting that I just finished named, `Some Join In, Others Don’t’. 

It is 20" x 20" x 1.5" and created in acrylic and collage on canvas. It is a painting residing in my new Connections and Relationships Collection.

Right after I finished it, I submitted it into a juried exhibition at 3 Square Gallery and it was on display there for a month. When I received it back from the Gallery, it was sitting upside down when I unpacked it and I really liked the different perspective. I then turned it around in every direction and found that I liked it every which way!

The story behind its meaning in the Connections and Relationships Collection relates to organizations or groups I have been in where others, and myself too, joined in but didn’t fit into vibe of the group. Or were asked to join in but didn’t because it wasn’t for them at the time.

Here are the results for you to decide. Directly below is the direction I painted it on view on a wall.

Which way do you like it best? 2nd best? Not at all from original position?

I like upside down vertically a lot (#1 of 3). And I like the terra cotta shape with the polka dots on the bottom left too (#3 of 3).
